The Suffolk Women’s History Network has engaged in a partnership with Suffolk Archives to promote interest and activity in the field of women’s history. With an aim to '(re)discover women's stories', we look forward to developing this project on a rolling basis through the continual input of interested parties.
Our primary desired outcomes for this project include the following:
1. That women are inspired to use Suffolk Archives as part of researching the lives of women hitherto ‘hidden from history’;
2. A regular forum will be held to provide inspiration, support and dissemination of material about the lives of women;
3. This research will be available on the Suffolk Archives website and as part of archive materials and will bring together the work already undertaken by groups and individuals;
4. A community based Suffolk Women’s History Group will be strengthened and operate on a countywide basis;
4. Links will be built with Suffolk University to build interest in local history, collaborate on research projects and develop research skills;
5. Benefits to the individuals who choose to get involved in this initiative such as an enhanced wellbeing through pursuing a new meaningful and interesting activity, being part of a group to support both collective and individual endeavours;
6. Involvement of women from diverse communities across the county to uncover achievements of Suffolk women from all cultural backgrounds will enrich the collections of Suffolk Archives and contribute to social cohesion.
This will be an 18 month project – September 2024 until April 2026
